pleasure heals – part 1

I caught myself the other day in a pleasure denial loop. Again! Whether I was doing the dishes, doing some writing or doing my partner, I kept finding ways to deny myself pleasure in the process.

It’s so aggravating – here I am, a freakin’ Sex and Intimacy Coach, and I won’t let the pleasure in. Rrrrrrrrr.

In those times it feels like everything else is more important – marketing, paying the bills, prepping for workshops, processing my relationship, personal healing… not only do these things seem more important, it seems important somehow that they be work, and that I (…continue reading)

why i’m a sex coach

You’d think, if I was trying to change the world – and I am – that I’d choose something more serious than, y’know, coaching people about sex. I could be helping people transform their lives or become enlightened. I could be saving the earth, empowering women, dismantling systems of oppression.

At first glance, sex might not seem all that serious or important. Why?

my take on the “50 shades” phenomenon

If you’re kinky, or ever wanted to be, you’ve probably heard by now about this whole Fifty Shades of Grey thing: the book trilogy that has been sweeping America (and maybe the English-speaking world?) over the past few months. So first off, I’ll admit it – I only read the first book. I thought it my duty as a sex educator to know firsthand what all the fuss (…continue reading)

Pregnant Nut by Aja Rose Bond

I just got back from a week-long spiritual retreat in the woods and have been talking with folks about the story woven throughout the week. Each year there is a different story or theme, and this year it was the birth of the Egyptian gods. Allow me to share a little piece of the magic with you.

The sun god Ra was the firstborn child of Nut, the starry goddess of the sky, and her husband Geb, the god of the good green earth. And though Ra’s moon brother Thoth had already been (…continue reading)

book review: the pleasure prescription

★★★★★

When a book uses phrases like “the seventh sense,” ”the third path” and “rational hedonism” it’s got my attention. This book, The Pleasure Prescription by Paul Pearsall, certainly got mine, and in a most unusual way.

At this point, my bookshelves are overflowing with books on sex and intimacy – many of which I have yet to read! Sex, relatonships, intimacy, these are hot topics nowadays and everyone’s got something to say about them… even if what they say isn’t worth listening to. Which is all to say, when I’ve got multiple shelves worth of books to catch (…continue reading)
